Gavin Hunt has called for Chippa United to sign more players in order to be competitive ahead of the new season, set to start in three weeks.
Chippa players reported for a pre-season camp in Cape Town last week and Hunt is assessing a number of trialists.
The club concluded last season in 15th place and retained their DStv Premiership status via the Premier Soccer League (PSL) promotional/relegation play-offs.
Hunt’s men played four teams in the Western Cape in preparation for the new season and to look at the players on trial. The club failed to register a win as they lost three matches against Stellenbosch, Cape Town City and Cape Town Spurs while drawing against Cape Town All Stars.

The former Kaizer Chiefs mentor believes the ‘Chilli Boys’ will be ready for their league opener against the newly promoted Sekhukhune United at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa on August 21.
“We will be ready for the start of the season, but we need players. We will have to take it one game at a time when the season starts and see what happens,” said Hunt, who joined Chippa last month after a poor season with Chiefs.
“For me personally‚ it has been fine since I arrived at Chippa‚ no problems at all. This is one of those things that happen in football.”
“We are still looking at a few players‚ obviously we need to get a squad you know. There are a couple of trialists at the moment and some of them I don’t even know their names,” he added.
Several players have been linked with Chippa, including Phumelele Bhengu, Roscoe Petersen, Cheslyn Jampies, and Jemondre Dickens.
Hunt said that Chippa have made two new signings and they will be announced soon. “They will be unveiled in due course.”
