A few South Africans will be involved in action on the first weekend of 2021 with their respective clubs.

FARPost takes a look at some of the matches to look out for this weekend as clubs look to start the new year on a high.

GLASGOW RANGERS vs GLASGOW CELTIC

SATURDAY 02 DECEMBER 2021

14:30 PM (SA TIME)

Bongani Zungu is still looking for his first start of the season for Rangers and getting it in the ‘old firm’ derby would be big for the South African. The ‘Gers’ currently lead their rivals by 16 points on the log, a win on Saturday would see them tighten their grip at the top of the log standings.

PAÇOS DE FERREIRA vs RIO AVE

SUNDAY 03 DECEMBER 2021

21:00 PM (SA TIME)

Bafana Bafana winger Luther Singh has started 11 Primeira Liga games for Ferreira and scored just one goal so far.

The 23-year-old has established himself as one of the key players for the club which has emerged as the surprise package this season. Ferreira sits in 6th position on the log with 16 points from 11 games. Singh got three goals and three assists last season and he will hope to better those numbers this season.

FLAES vs BRAGA

SUNDAY 03 DECEMBER 2021

13:00 PM (SA TIME)

Braga has been flying in the 1a Divisao Women and they will be looking to continue their form against Flaes on Sunday afternoon. A dominant 5-0 thrashing of Condeixa on match day eight would have boosted the club’s confidence towards the end of 2020. South African midfielder Jermaine Seoposenwe has been a regular under coach Miguel Santos who has built the team around her. Braga is just three points behind log leaders Famalicao and will look to close the gap on Sunday.

GIL VICENTE vs BELENENSES

MONDAY 04 DECEMBER 2021

21:00 PM (SA TIME)

Sphephelo Sithole has been a revelation for SAD Belenenses since getting his first league start against SC Braga four weeks ago. The KZN Academy graduate has started three more games since getting his first start and he has been the focal point in midfield for the Lisbon-based side. Defender Thibang Phete is still suspended after getting a red card two weeks ago against Maritimo.

COVA PIEDADE vs FC PORTO B

MONDAY 04 DECEMBER 2021

16:00 PM (SA TIME)

Thabo Cele has been getting the much-needed game time in the Portuguese second tier with Piedade. The midfielder is on his last six months on his current deal with the club and at the age of 23 a move up to the Primeira Liga would be good for him. Cele has played 10 league games so far in the league as he continues where he left off last season.
