A well-known Premier Soccer League (PSL) star has been arrested for Gender-based violence (GBV).
The player is believed to be a 27-year-old Orlando Pirates forward.
The player, who is also a Bafana Bafana international, was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning after his girlfriend opened a case of assault at the Midrand Police station.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in Gauteng, Lieutenant Kay Makhubela confirmed the arrest to FARPost but the suspect has not been publicly named.
“Police in the early hours of Monday morning, 07 September 2020 arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly assaulting a woman at his place of residence in Midrand,” said Makhubela.
“It is reported that the suspect physically assaulted the complainant after a verbal exchange between the two, and the victim was allegedly rescued by the suspect’s friend who was present at the time of the incident that is related to domestic,” he said.

The name of the player (accused) will only be revealed after he has appeared in court. The country’s Criminal Procedure Act of 1977 prohibits the publication of the identity of the accused before they appear in court and plead.
