Legendary goalkeeper and now co-coach at Polokwane City, Innocent Mayoyo says he wants to use his second stint at the club to achieve something that eluded him some 14 years ago.
Mayoyo has been confirmed as the new man in charge at Rise and Shine alongside Machete Moloto.
The former Orlando Pirates player was once part of Polokwane City (then called Winners Park) and Dynamos teams that attempted to gain promotion to the Premiership division without success.
The charismatic mentor says he is back in the province to complete the puzzle.
“This is my opportunity to fulfil the unfinished business, as you know that I am here for the third time having been with Winners Park and Dynamos before, but not being able to gain promotion,” Mayoyo tells FARPost.
“I think my season is here. It’s for me to make sure that I complete the puzzle and finish the job. My objective as a person and a coach first, before the mandate of the club is to try and make sure that after 14 years, I win the league and gain promotion.
“The squad of players that I have will need to be trained, to be coached, hopefully, they will be able to adapt to our winning formula. But looking at the players in their eyes there is hunger, there is ambition that makes the job a little bit easier. Yes, I know everybody in the league is fighting for the same title, but we will give it a fight,” he said.
City will open their GladAfrica Championship campaign with a Limpopo derby against Black Leopards at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday, 21 August.
