Willian wants to leave Arsenal in the summer to join Major League Soccer side Inter Miami.
Since arriving at the Emirates Stadium on a free transfer, the forward has failed to impress. Despite being one of the club’s top earners, he has scored just one goal in all competitions, although he has provided seven assists.
It is understood Arsenal are keen to move him on in the summer with several European clubs thought to be interested. In the past Willian has expressed a desire to move to MLS and, according to the Sun, he is keen to join Inter Miami.
Miami boss Phil Neville would be interested in bringing him in as well, but he would likely have to sell designated player Rodolfo Pizarro beforehand.
The Mexico international has had a tepid start to the campaign, providing just one assist in his opening five games, and he was left out of the side for the Herons’ recent 3-2 win over FC Cincinnati.
If the high earning Pizarro is moved on, Willian will join a talented squad in south Florida. Gonzalo Higuain, Blaise Matuidi and Ryan Shawcross form the spine of Neville’s team, while West Brom left-back Kieran Gibbs is also arriving at the end of the Premier League season.
After experiencing a torrid campaign, Arsenal are planning a significant squad overhaul. However, before doing so they must get Willian’s hefty wages off the books.
Fellow Brazilian David Luiz will depart, while Bernd Leno, Hector Bellerin and Alexandre Lacazette could also be out the door.
Despite failing to get Arsenal into the European spots this season, Mikel Arteta’s job is believed to be safe for now, despite reports suggesting he could be sacked after the Gunners crashed out of the Europa League earlier this month.
