La Liga giants Barcelona have held talks with their former midfielder Xavier Hernandes over a possible return as the club coach.
Coach Ernesto Valverde has been under pressure at the club and their Thursday Supercopa de Espana defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid appears to have piled the pressure on him.
Catalan Radio RAC1 1 reported on Friday that Barcelona sporting director Eric Abidal and CEO Oscar Grau held talks with Xavi in Qatar on Friday to discuss the possibility of him taking over at the end of the season.
Barcelona though denied the claims saying that the trip to Doha by Abidal was because they were checking up on Ousmane Dembele who is currently over there recovering from injury.
But RAC 1 claim they also met with Xavi and the ex Spanish international is a serious option if and when Valverde leaves Camp Nou.
Xavi is currently coaching Qatar Stars League football club Al Sadd and has a contract until 2021.
The 39-year-old World Cup winner made 767 appearances for Barca between 1998 and 2015 winning a total of 25 titles with the club.
