Barcelona legend Xavi says he is ready to manage his former club just two months after rejecting the job.
The 40-year-old spent the majority of his playing career at Nou Camp from 1998 to 2015, playing more than 700 matches.
Xavi left Barca to undertake a new challenge in Qatar with Al Saad in 2015, where he spent four years as a player before becoming their new head coach.
“I am clear that I want to return to Barcelona, it gives me a lot of excitement” He said in an interview with La Vanguardia.
“Now that I have seen myself coaching I think I can bring things to the players. But I made it clear to them that I saw myself in a project that started from zero and in which the decision-making was mine” he said.
Barcelona have already shown an interest in their former midfielder, reportedly approaching Xavi for the job before Ernesto Valverde was fired in January, but did not think it was the right time.
“I would like to work with people I trust, with very valid people there is mutual loyalty. There can’t be anyone toxic around the dressing room”
Xavi has also named Neymar among the three players he would sign if he was to return to the club as manager.
