FARPost can confirm that Maritzburg United and defender Siyanda Xulu are engaged in talks for a new contract.
Xulu joined the KZN side three seasons ago from Kaizer Chiefs and he has been one of the most outstanding players in the team that last season avoided the axe by winning the PSL/NFD relegation/promotion playoffs after finishing 15th on the Absa Premiership log standings.
Though the club chairman Farouk Kadodia could not clearly confirm the story, he told FARPost that they would be happy to keep the former Bafana Bafana defender at the club.
“We gave the player the opportunity. He is coming from a big stable and we wanted to help him get to where he was and obviously if he doesn’t find an offer, we will keep him at the club,” said Kadodia.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns and FK Rostov defender has made 89 appearances for the ‘Team of Choice’ over the last three years and will be hoping to extend his stay at the Maritzburg based outfit.
Although Maritzburg are keen on retaining the 28-year-old as his contract expires in June, Xulu is available to sign a pre-contract deal with any team that requires his services.
