The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has announced that it will comply with the Government’s ban of football fans from attending football matches at the stadium, in the wake of the recent spike in the number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country.
According to a press statement by FAZ, fans will not be allowed inside the stadium with immediate effect as a precautionary measure.
The fans have just been back attending matches for two months after they were banned in March again due to rising COVID-19 cases only to be allowed back in November.
“Following a recent spike in the number of COVID-19 cases reported in Zambia, Government has announced a ban of football fans from stadia in the 2020/2021 football season,” read the statement from FAZ.
“In this regard, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) wishes to inform its stakeholders and all members of the football family that with immediate effect, there will be no fans who will be allowed inside football stadia as a precautionary measure,” they said.
FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala in an interview with FAZ media said the Association will fully comply with Government’s directive and has advised all clubs to adhere to Minister of Youth, Sport and Child Development, Emmanuel Mulenga’s announcement on the ban of spectators until further notice.
