The Zambian Football Association (FAZ) have announced the postponement of two League fixtures which were due to take place this coming weekend, due to adverse COVID-19 cases.
The decision follows FAZ’s executive committee meeting which took place in Lusaka on Thursday.
Struggling side Kansanshi Dynamos were due to take on title chasers Green Eagles while Power Dynamos were scheduled to host second placed Forest Rangers.
“We have received several requests from clubs to suspend or postpone fixtures due to adverse COVID-19 results,” read a communique from FAZ seen by FARPost.
“We will only entertain these requests if a club has less than 15 players available from the registered pool of players available and decisions will be made on a case by case basis on whether matches should be played or not.
“We are urging teams to retest players after 10 days and 14 days respectively. Teams can only be quarantined and isolated in their entirety if ordered to do so by the Provincial Health Director only as per Sl 21 and 22 of 2020,” instructed FAZ.
Reports from Zambia are that Forest Rangers, Power Dynamos as well as Zanaco have confirmed cases, while Kansanshi Dynamos and Nakambala Leopards have indicated their intentions to withdraw from playing on health grounds.
Seven fixtures of the Zambian Super League will carry on this weekend.
