Zimbabwean youngster signs professional contract with Liverpool

Isaac Mabaya has signed his first professional contract with Liverpool FC.

The 17-year-old has been at the English club since the age of six.

He broke into the U18s team last season as a 16-year-old and was initially deployed as a wide midfielder.

A switch mid-season saw him move to full-back, where his ability to sweep forward as an attacking option has been impressive, and he has been playing at right-back for Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s U18s this season.

Mabaya was born in England to Zimbabwean parents. He joins a host of Zimbabwean players who are contracted to English clubs.

Marvelous Nakamba is with Premier League side Aston Villa while Admiral Muskwe currently turns out for Championship club Luton Town. Highly rated striker Macauley Bonne plays for League One side Ipswich Town.
