Orlando Pirates head coach Josef Zinnbauer has heaped praise on star midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch for his recent performances.
Lorch has come under fire for his dip in form this season but coach Zinnbauer’s continued faith and patience with the attacking midfielder is starting to pay off.
“We all know last year he was a big player in this country (Lorch was crowned PSL Footballer of the Season and Player’s Player of the Season) and now it’s Lorch’s old form on the way and he is coming back,” said Zinnbauer.
Lorch’s goal against Highland Park a few weeks ago at Orlando Stadium was his first goal of the current campaign and his first since he scored a brace in Pirates’s 3-0 win over Polokwane City on the last day of the 2018/19 season in May last year.
In the 2018/19 season, the Free State-born attacker scored 15 goals and provided a further 5 assists in all competitions in 40 matches for the Soweto giants.
Last week Lorch provided an assist for his teammate Vincent Pule when Bucs won 1-0 against AmaZulu at Orlando Stadium and was also very instrumental in Bucs’s 2-1 win over Chippa United this past weekend.
But the German born coach says Lorch has been doing something different in his game this season, which makes him even a better player than he was when he was voted as the best player in South African football last season.
“He works for the team. He is a team player now and makes a step in the right direction. And for me, that is very important to see. Lorch is a top player,” concluded the Bucs coach.
