Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Bongani Zungu has reacted to getting his first league start for Glasgow Rangers in Scotland.
Zungu was named in the starting line-up by coach Steven Gerrard for the away trip to Hamilton on Sunday afternoon.
After an own goal by Brian Easton gave the visitors the lead in the 80th minute, an error at the back allowed Hamilton to equalize in stoppage time to earn a point against the giants.
Gerrard’s side remains undefeated this season with 76 points from 28 games. They have a 21-point advantage over their rivals Glasgow Celtic who have 55 points from 26 games.
Celtic have two games in hand.
It has taken a while for the South African to get the nod ahead of regulars Joe Aribo, Steven Davis and Ryan Jack. Speaking to Sky Sports news, the 28-year-old said he was very pleased to finally get the opportunity.
“I’m very excited to start. The manager saw something different from what the team has when he signed me so it is a chance for me to show my quality.
“Games are not easy here in Scotland. Every game has challenges. We expect a tough game and respect every opponent.”
The Gers will hope to get back to winning ways when they take on Kilmarnock at Ibrox Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
February is a busy month for the Scottish side as they will also be taking on Royal Antwerp in the Uefa Europa League knockout stage.
In the next few months, the Bafana Bafana star will have to work hard to convince the technical team that he deserves a permanent deal at the club after his loan deal finishes at the end of the season.
His deal with French Ligue 2 side Amiens also expires at the end of the season and it remains to be seen what the future holds for him.
