Bongani Zungu has been included in Glasgow Rangers’ squad for the knockout phase of the Uefa Europa League.
The Bafana Bafana international will be pleased to see his name in the revised list submitted by Steven Gerrard and his technical team ahead of the knockout phase of the competition.
He has struggled to break into the starting line-up of the Gers since making a loan move from French Ligue 2 side Amiens SC.
Zungu has made 11 Scottish Premiership appearances for the log leaders. He has also made appearances in the Europa League Cup.
Ianis Hagi, Ryan Kent and Nigerian midfielder Joe Aribo have been the preferred regular starters in the middle of the park for Rangers and it is well justified as the Glasgow-based side is yet to lose a game this season with the trio controlling things in midfield.
Former England international striker Jermaine Defoe has surprisingly been left out of the squad as he continues his come back after being on the sidelines for months due to injury.
New signings Jack Simpson and Scott Wright have both been included.
Rangers finished top of Group D with 14 points from six games. The Scottish side was followed closely by SL Benfica with 12 points while Standard Liege and Lech Poznan were third and fourth with four and three points respectively.
In the last 32, Gerrard’s side takes on Belgian side Royal Antwerp who have undergone a project of renewal and have been doing well in the Jupiler Pro League this season under coach Franky Vercauteren.
Antwerp is second on the log table with 43 points from 22 games.
The knockout phase of the competition is scheduled to start on the 18th of February with the final set to be played on the 26th of May at the Stadion Miejski in Gdańsk (Poland), to decide the champions of the 2020/21 UEFA Europa League.
