Molefi Ntseki has announced his squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in which Bafana Bafana will square off with Sao Tome Principle – there are some notable omissions, including SC Amiens midfielder Bongani Zungu.
Ntseki has explained his reasoning behind the decision to exclude Zungu who has played 24 games in all competitions for Amiens in France’s top division League with a goal and an assist to his name this season.
The 29-year-old central midfielder has also played the full 90 minutes against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Olympique Marseille recently in Ligue 1.

His team [Amiens] is also struggling with relegation and knowing his history with injuries we felt that we should let him rest and focus maybe towards the end of the season when he is fit he will be back, “said Ntseki on Wednesday after naming his squad of 25 players to face Sao Tome e Principle.
“Zungu and Darren Keet are not injured. We felt we needed to bring in players that are in the country. Keet has not been playing at his club. Zungu has been in and out due to injuries. We felt let’s give him some time with his club and give other players a chance,” added the Bafana mentor.
Other notable exclusions include in-form striker Bongi Ntuli who has scored 12 of the AmaZulu’s 14 goals this season in 24 Absa Premiership appearances.
Maritzburg United defender Rushine De Reuck and Motjeka Madisha of Mamelodi Sundowns.
“Bongi Ntuli is number four in the list of strikers so I’ve been monitoring him for some time,” said Ntseki.
He is one of 50 players we profiled. He just missed out. I know a lot about Bongi and watched him a number of times. But the Bongi that played against Chiefs had something extra. He was moving around, not just staying in the box. That’s the Ntuli that can make it to Bafana, “concluded the Bafana coach.
The AmaZulu hitman is the 2019/20 Absa Premiership season’s joint-second top goal scorer.
