The debate around whether Themba Zwane’s goal for Mamelodi Sundowns against SupetSport United was legitimate or not rages on.
Downs won 2-1 at Lucas Moripe Stadium, with Mshishi’s goal being the opener before Dean Furnan equalised from the penalty spot and Thapelo Morena netting the winner for the Brazilians.
Many thought Sundowns “benefitted” – a term widely used this season in the Absa Premiership to describe situations where teams get goals from errors committed by match officials.
On Monday, during the SuperSport TV Extra Time show, refereeing expert Ace Ncobo, himself a former ref, explained that the decision was spot on.
Ncobo’s explanation in the video above was met with mixed reactions – with some agreeing with him and others slamming him for allegedly interpreting the rules wrongly.
Youth football coach Farouk Khan appeared to disagree in a tweet he sent out.
Ncobo, however, was backed by others, who thought he was “spot on”.
You be the judge.
