Eric Bailly’s first words after Marseille loan move

Ivorian international Eric Bailly has broken his silence following his loan move to the Ligue 1 side Marseille from Manchester United.

This comes after the player was linked with a move to clubs such as Sevilla, AC Milan, AS Roma, Monaco, West Ham and Fulham.

He arrived at Old Trafford in June 2016 from Villarreal for a reported fee of £30 million, signing a four-year contract deal with the club.

The 28-year-old defender did not feature in any of the Red Devils’ matches this campaign after the acquisition of Lisandro Martinez and it was clear that he was unlikely to get his chance to play anytime soon.

One would say moving away from Erik ten Hag’s side would benefit all parties.

Bailly’s contract at United will come to an end in June 2024, with an option to extend for a further year.

According to reports, Marseille will cover the full amount of Bailly’s salary during his stay at the French club.

“From the bottom of my heart, thank you United!” wrote Bailly on his official Instagram account.

“I’m happy and I can’t wait to start this new adventure at Marseille! A big season ahead!”

Overall, he has played 113 games for United, scoring one goal – against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium in August 2017.

The centre-back played a key role in helping the Red Devils win the EFL Cup and UEFA Europa League in the 2016/17 season.

The ex- Espanyol man made his international debut for the Ivory Coast in 2015 and helped them win that year’s Africa Cup of Nations. He played in two different African tournaments and the 2020 Olympics.
