Vela Khumalo’s stern warning on Chiefs starlet Mfundo Vilakazi

Kaizer Chiefs reserves coach Vela Khumalo has issued a stern warning about the club’s starlet Mfundo Vilakazi.

The talented forward has impressed this season in the DStv Diski Challenge, displaying his talent and skills.

Probably, his best highlight of the season would be the stunning free-kick he scored a fortnight ago against Golden Arrows.

The 17-year-old has been in people’s mouths lately. Khumalo, however, doesn’t want the youngster to be overhyped because that can disturb his career, which hasn’t taken off yet.

According to Khumalo, the young Vilakazi is a player they are preparing to develop for the first team in future.

“Let us not rush into saying the boy is a star. He’s young and talented. He’s a player that we want to build. We want to build him over time until he becomes a better player we believe he can be,” Khumalo told FARPost.

“Ultimately, we want to prepare him for the first team. It’s just a matter of time, and it’s a working progress for him to get to the desired level that we want him to reach.”

KHUMALO IMPRESSED WITH HOW THE TEAM IS COMING UP

After losing his star trio in midfield and attack, Samkelo Zwane, Mduduzi Shabalala and Wandile Duba, due to promotion to the first team, Khumalo is happy with how the team is coming up and starting to take shape.

“We have new players coming in, and they’ve been competing. I’m happy with the response. I think it’s just a matter of time.

“We’ll get it right because we lost that cream at the top where we had Mduduzi and Wandile. They used to understand each other on how we used to play. With Donay Jansen, Keaviano Francis and Neo Buhloko 14 years old, that understanding will develop, and they will be a better team,” he added.

On the log table, the Soweto giants are fourth after accumulating 28 points from 18 matches.
