Kaizer Chiefs star breaks silence on lack of game time

Kaizer Chiefs star has broken his silence on his lack of game time at the Soweto giants. The Chiefs playmaker hasn’t featured for Arthur Zwane‘s side in their last seven matches.

The Amakhosi winger Kgaogelo Sekgota has found it difficult to secure regular game time at Chiefs this season, having featured in 25 games across all competitions, mostly coming in as a substitute.

Last campaign, the ex-Swallows player only made 18 appearances [a mere 389 minutes] for the Glamour Boys.

Sekgota started the campaign like a house on fire, with Zwane describing him as the real talisman of the club.

The 25-year-old was on the bench when the Soweto giants suffered a 1-0 defeat to Sekhukhune United on Sunday at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The defeat ended Chiefs’ six-match unbeaten run.

KGAOGELO SEKGOTA ON HIS LACK OF GAME TIME

Speaking on his lack of games under the tutelage of Zwane, Sekgota said: “I have been working hard and getting motivation from the technical team.”

“Obviously, everything has its moment. All in good time, so it’s good.

“The team has been doing well. We won a few games in a row, and obviously, it’s sad when, as Kaizer Chiefs, you lose a game [against Sekhukhune], but we still have a lot to play for.”

Sekgota believes his side will make their fans happy as they have few games to play, including the Nedbank Cup semi-finals.

“We’ve got the Nedbank Cup semi-final. We’ve got some games left to finish the season very well, as far up as possible,” he added.

“The team is working very hard daily, and we are ready for anything that comes.”

KGAOGELO SEKGOTA ON FACING CHIPPA UNITED

Chiefs’ next DStv Premiership assignment will be against Chippa United in Gqeberha on Thursday, 27 April 2023. The kick-off is set for 15:00.

Sekgota reckons facing the Chilli Boys won’t be a walk in the park. And they cannot afford to drop points again as they are in contestation for the CAF Champions League qualification.

“Chippa have a good team with good players. But we are also good, and we are ready for them and looking forward to the game,” he explained.

“I think they have a good squad. And thinking of their position in the relegation zone means it’s not going to be easy for us. But as I said, we’ll be ready for them.”
