Cassius Mailula makes big promise for next season

After taking the PSL by storm this past season, Mamelodi Sundowns sensation Cassius Mailula has no intentions of fading into obscurity.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season to remember. He grabbed his opportunity and ran with it in a star-studded Sundowns team.

Mailula finished his first full season with the senior team boasting an impressive haul of 15 goals and four assists in all competitions.

CASSIUS MAILULA’S IMPRESSIVE SEASON

The diminutive attacker from Ga-Molapo in Limpopo scored nine times in the DStv Premiership and six times in the CAF Champions League.

His fine form was critical in Sundowns winning the Premiership this season, which was Mailula’s first taste of silverware.

As a form of more reward for the youngster, he was voted as the Young Player of the Season at the recent PSL awards.

“The coaches believe in me now. I’ve gained their trust. I think from here I just have to work hard to be able to maintain the same work ethic. And how I’ve been performing,” said Mailula.

“It’s not easy to play for Sundowns. Yu don’t have to only have one good season, you always have to improve and get better with each and every season.

“For me the next season I just have to be focused, pay more attention to little details. Because there’s certain things that I also feel I could’ve done better.”

Having now made a name for himself, Mailula is determined to continue his rise to stardom even though he understands it will only get tougher.

LOOKING TO IMPROVE NEXT SEASON

“The next season is not going to be easy because everyone will be expecting a lot from me,” added Mailula.

“I also feel like I don’t need to put myself under pressure. I need to listen to the coaches. Also listen to my teammates because they’re also the ones helping me to settle in better.

“It’s going to require me to work extra hard. To keep on pushing and not stop because everyone wants to play in our team. I need to make sure that I keep working hard and push. So that I also get the chance to showcase my talent.”
