Why Mandla Masango rejected a ‘disrespectful’ PSL offer

Former Kaizer Chiefs star Mandla Masango has revealed why he rejected a ‘disrespectful’ offer from a PSL side even though he remains club-less.

The 33-year-old has been unattached since 2018 after a stint with Danish club Randers FC where he scored seven goals in 29 appearances for the club.

Masango, though, insists that he is yet to hang up his boots and will jump at the opportunity to return to field of play should a suitable offer come his way.

MANDLA MASANGO REJECTED ‘DISRESPECTFUL’ OFFER

The ex-Bafana Bafana winger revealed that he did receive an offer from a PSL side recently, but it didn’t meet his standards.

In fact, Masango described the offer as ‘disrespectful’ adding that he would rather remain club-less than accept.

“It’s a very tough question to answer [why I can’t find a team] it’s not a matter of being so and so. It’s just a matter of principles,” said Masango.

“You must have principles as a person. I have my own principles and if my expectations are not being met, I’d rather stay at home.

“The last time I had an offer, I won’t mention the club. But the person called me and offered me an amount that I can make even when I’m sitting on my couch at home. I can stay home and sleep the whole day and make that amount he was offering me.

“You must have respect when you speak to people, you must respect their craft. I feel like some of the PSL clubs don’t respect the craft of the players.

“Find a rugby or cricket player and tell me if you’ll read somewhere that they are broke. That’s because their craft is taken seriously and they are respected.

“The offer was from a Premiership team. I won’t divulge much but it was an offer that I wouldn’t accept.”

Masango believes that his legs can still carry him for a few more years and is awaiting decent offers to return to the field.

MASANGO NOT READY TO HANG UP HIS BOOTS

He has previously been linked with clubs like Cape Town City, SuperSport United and Sekhukhune United.

“For now I will continue with my things. And if something that meets my expectations comes up then I will be up for it,” added Masango.

“Life is a matter of negotiations, I respect every individual whether or not they have money. But don’t come to me and disrespect me. Yes, I have nothing, but treat me with respect.”
