Chiefs charged again for spectator misbehaviour

The PSL Disciplinary Committee has once again charged Kaizer Chiefs for supporters’ misbehaviour this past weekend.

The charges emanate from the angry supporters throwing missiles at the now-departed coach Molefi Ntseki after the 1-0 loss to AmaZulu in the Carling Knockout Cup Last 16.

The incident is the fourth from the Chiefs’ faithful, who have been baying for Ntseki’s blood. The first incident was during the 1-0 defeat away to TS Galaxy in August in a DStv Premiership clash. Their fans also threw missiles at Ntseki after the 1-0 loss to SuperSport in Polokwane last month.

The Amakhosi fans also did not take kindly to the MTN8 semi-final loss to Mamelodi Sundowns at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Three weeks ago, the club was issued a monetary fine by the PSL of R200,000. R50,000 was suspended for six months on condition that they were not found guilty of the same offence.

Chiefs Fans’ Misbehaviour Reaches Boiling Point

In videos circulating on social media platforms, some sections of the Chiefs fans can be seen throwing objects at Ntseki as he was leaving FNB Stadium. PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu has since confirmed that the league has charged the Soweto giants.

“I hereby confirm that earlier this afternoon, I preferred charges of spectator misbehaviour and unruly conduct against Kaizer Chiefs. As a sequel to what transpired in their recent match against AmaZulu this past Saturday. They will be appearing before the PSL on 31 October 2023 at 11:30 in the morning,” said Majavu.

POSSIBLE SANCTIONS BY THE PREMIER SOCCER LEAGUE

In the sanction of the previous incident, the PSL indicated that the club could risk playing behind closed doors if they repeated the same offence.

“The import of it is that it will affect other innocent spectators or fans of the club they are scheduled to play next,” said Majvu while handing the ruling earlier this month.

“For practical considerations, it would simply mean that a particular fixture will be played without fans on both sides of the team’s fixture against each other.”

Meanwhile, the club also announced on Monday that they parted ways with Ntseki. Cavin Johnson will take over as the interim coach.
