TS Galaxy goalie headlines Rwanda squad to face Bafana Bafana

A top performing TS Galaxy goalkeeper has been drafted into Rwanda’s squad to face Bafana Bafana in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The call-up follows his heroics in the Carling Knockout Cup where he saved a penalty when TS Galaxy eliminated Sekhukhune United from the competition.

Goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari saved Pogiso Mahlangu’s penalty after Jamie Webber’s effort hit the upright, as Galaxy won 4-2 on penalties.

As a result, TS Galaxy joined Stellenbosch FC, Richards Bay, AmaZulu FC in the semi-final phase.

This was the second time Fiacre Ntwari proved mettle in the penalty lottery in this exciting competition.

First, he saved two penalties to help TS Galaxy defeat Mamelodi Sundowns in the first round of the Carling Knockout Cup.

And rightfully, his brilliant performances earned him a place in the Rwanda squad to face Zimbabwe and Bafana Bafana in Group C respectively.

The 24-year-old was drafted into a 30-men squad by the recently appointed German coach, Torsten Spittler Frank.

WHEN RWANDA WILL FACE BAFANA IN THE FIFA WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS

Bafana Bafana will begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with a match against Benin at home on the 18th of November.

Rwanda, on the otherhand will host Zimbabwe on the 15th at the Huye Stadium in the city of Butare.

South Africa and Rwanda will then face off on 21 November at the same venue in Rwanda.

Intrestingly, Rwanda started their training camp on Sunday morning with all locally based players. Foreign based players are expected as the week progresses, in what will be a ten-day camp.

Their group also consists of Nigeria, Benin and Lesotho. On paper, South Africa is one of the teams tipped to excel, though Nigeria appear to be the natural favorites.

Meanwhile coach Hugo Broos named an enlarged 44-member preliminary squad for the qualifiers.

The squad will be trimmed to 23 players in time for the crucial matches. They will host the match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Broos’ men players are set to camp at the University of Pretoria on Monday 13 November. According to SAFA, They will to travelling to Durban, three days later.
