Upington coach hails the impact of Keletso Makgalwa

Upington City coach Thulani Nkosi admits that the arrival of Keletso Makgalwa has had a huge impact on the club’s performance. The former Mamelodi Sundowns forward seems to have settled in well at the side since joining two months ago.

He has already scored five goals for the Motsepe Foundation Championship side including a stunning free kick against Magesi FC during their 2-1 loss in Polokwane.

WHAT IMPACT HAS KELETSO MAKGALWA SIGNING DONE FOR UPINGTON CITY

Nkosi says Makgalwa’s presence alone in the team makes the opposition plan against him.

“He has brought a lot to this team. You can see the difference, the influence that is there,” he said.

“I think [his presence] affects more of the opposition than us. Because of his presence alone, you can see it seems like they [teams] spend a week planning only against him. But on a positive note, what he brings to the team, I think you saw for yourself.

“It’s even nicer the way he has gelled with his teammates because he is not a one-man show. It’s not where you can say if Keletso doesn’t play then we won’t play because he helps the teammates also to engage in a play,” he said.

THULANI NKOSI PLEASED WITH NEW SIGNINGS AT THE MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP NEWCOMERS

“I am quite pleased with the contribution that he has made, not him alone. Bonginkosi Makume, Victor Bakah and Trevor Mokwena. Those were signings that we made and you can see it paying dividends,” he said.

Upington are just three points below the log leader Orbit College with 17 games played so far. Nkosi predicts a tight second round and insists no one is guaranteed anything in the promotion race.

“In Setswana we say agona senganga [there is no boss] in this league. Everyone has to work to be where you want to go.”
