Two PSL clubs fight over talented defender

Two PSL clubs are fighting over a talented defender as the second round of the season is slowly reaching its fever pitch.

FARPost has established that two Motsepe Foundation Championship sides are battling over a defender. The two clubs are Baroka FC and Upington City.

This publication has learnt that the player in question terminated his contract at Upington City so that he could join Baroka.

However, the Northern Cape side is refusing to give the player his clearance. As a result, the defender is unable to register for Bakgaga without his clearance.

The player involved in this matter is none other than Bonginkosi Makume. This website can confirm that the 28-year-old centre-back has been training with the Dan Malesela-coached side since January 2024.

Makume is no stranger to Baroka, as he played for the club between 2018 and 2022 in the PSL top flight.

The defender, Makume, was in attendance when Baroka succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to arch-rivals Magesi FC at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.

DAN MALESELA ON BONGINKOSI MAKUME MATTER

When coach Malesela was asked about Makume’s situation, he confirmed that they are yet to sign the talented defender.

“Makume, we haven’t signed him as yet. But this is something Richards Mashabane [the club’s CEO] and the chairman are trying to solve,” said Malesela after their game with Magesi.

“I’m not so sure how far they are now. But I just said to them to tell me when everything has been finalised. When everything is done, then we can talk.”

As things stand, Baroka are placed fourth on the Motsepe Foundation Championship log standings with 31 points after 20 games.

Bakgaga’s next assignment will be against Venda FC on Sunday, 10 March 2024. The Limpopo derby tie will start at 15:30 at Thohoyandou Stadium.
