Titus reacts to being tipped for DStv Prem Young Player of the Year award

Stellenbosch FC’s Devin Titus has reacted to Steve Barker‘s endorsement for the DStv Premiership Young Player of the Year award.

Titus, who is 23 years old, has been in great form for Stellenbosch this season, contributing to the team’s unbeaten record in South Africa’s top-flight league.

The Cape club has been unbeaten in all competitions since October 2023, winning 21 games in the process.

The talented winger has played in 30 matches across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists.

STEVE BARKER VOUCHING FOR TITUS FOR YOUNG PLAYER OF THE SEASON

After showcasing good performances, the rising star has been tipped by his coach Barker for the DStv Premiership Young Player of the Season award.

“…I just look at a player like Devin Titus for example, I have a fear that if you look at his assists and goal scored, he should win the Young Player of the Season if it was tomorrow by a country mile,” said Barker.

“Whether it will happen I don’t know, but I do feel it’s those types of instances where maybe not enough has been said about some of the achievements of our players and what we are doing as a team.

“But we are not out there to let people see what we are doing by telling them, we just go by business the way we do. I do believe that we’ll get the credit and reward that we deserve.”

DEVIN TITUS ON STEVE BARKER’S REMARKS

In an interview with FARPost, Titus shared his thoughts on his mentor’s comments about him potentially being the Young Player of the Season.

“Coach Steve put his trust in me and when I saw what he said I felt honoured,” said the Stellies Young Footballer of the Season for the 2022/23 campaign.

“At the end of the day, he sees what I do on and off the field. So he knows what I’m doing.”

Titus also mentioned that he feels like the team’s unbeaten run of 21 matches is not given enough credit.

“I think we haven’t been given the credit we deserve. But I feel like we have been going about our business quietly and hopefully, we can continue with our form,” he added.

Stellenbosch have qualified for the Nedbank Cup semi-finals and will be hoping to add another trophy to their cabinet having already clinched the Carling Knockout Cup.
