Gavin Hunt reveals one on one conversation with Michael Owen

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has revealed his one-on-one conversation with England football legend Michael Owen at Megawatt Park, the club’s training ground.

Hunt says the experience of hosting Owen at SuperSport was interesting.

Owen, who is in South Africa doing the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup analysis for pay channel SuperSport, took a day off to visit the Matsatsantsa training camp most recently.

SuperSport took to social media to show the 42-year-old retired striker interacting with players from the junior and senior team.

Owen was also presented with the SuperSport jersey by club CEO Stan Matthews.

The former Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid star also conducted coaching clinics with the soccer school boys.

SUPERSPORT IMPRESSES MICHAEL OWEN

Hunt told FARPost that the 2001 Ballon d’Or winner was impressed with what he saw at Megawatt Park.

“He came in and he was quite impressed,” said Hunt.

“Owen thought the training was good; he thought the intensity was good. So, yeah, it was just pretty much him telling us what he thought was quite good, and he enjoyed it.

“He spoke with the kids and it was a nice day. It was a really nice day, it wasn’t easy for him, he had a lot to do and a lot of people to talk to,” added Hunt.

ANY ADVICE TO THEIR STRIKERS?

“How much are you going to do in half an hour? I don’t think it was about that (giving advice to the strikers),” explained the SuperSport coach.

“I think he just wanted to see the setup of the club. We explained to him what type of a club we are.

“We are not one of the big three that’s for sure, but we have done really well in the 25 years winning trophies, in a lot of finals so yah it’s a club that is on the up.”

SuperSport are back for the mini pre-season and preparing for the second round of the season end of December. They are third in the DStv Premiership after 13 matches.
