Makgalwa names former Chiefs star as the toughest defensive opponent

Upington City FC attacker Keletso Makgalwa has named the former Kaizer Chiefs star as the toughest defensive opponent.

Makgalwa has been in dazzling form in the Motsepe Foundation Championship after joining Upington City in October 2023.

The skilful midfielder signed for Upington on a free transfer after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns at the start of the 2023/24 season.

Makgalwa quickly established himself as a fan-favourite at City after featuring in 10 games in the league, scoring five goals and making three assists. His impressive form has attracted interest from several clubs in the DStv Premiership, including Sekhukhune United.

Despite a few clubs hot on Makgalwa’s heals, he is unlikely to leave City during the current January transfer window.

The Northern Cape-based outfit wants to keep him as they push for promotion to the DStv Premiership.

Meanwhile, Makgalwa, who is known for his ambidextrous dribbling ability, has named a former Chiefs player as the toughest defensive opponent.

MAKGALWA ADMITS SIYABONGA NGEZANA IS THE TOUGHEST DEFENDER TO FACE

The 28-year-old winger admitted that Siyabonga Ngezana, who is now plying his trade in Romania with FCSB, has always been tough to face. Makgalwa and Ngezana faced each other while playing for Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, respectively.

“One of the most difficult players I’ve ever come against is Siyabonga Ngezana. He was very hard to beat,” Makgalwa told FARPost.

“A lot of people don’t know that Ngezana is very good with one-on-one situations. He always gave me a tough time.

“My rivalry with Ngezana comes from our time in the [DStv] Diski Challenge before our promotion to the senior team. So I can say he’s one defender I’ll always think about before the match.”
